i am working on a American Flyer 583 magnetic crane that's in need of repair. I can not find anywhere a diagram that shows the re-stringing of this crane. Any help appreciated.

If I recall correctly.... Have the crane boom in the middle position. Tie the one end of the string to the bar at the top of the boom. Run this line down and through the magnet ring. Bring it back up and over the little spool at the tip of the boom. Run back into the cab under the bar, and through the cab and out the opening in the back and tie off to the eyelet in the base. The string should be just long enough so that the magnet sits on the platform when the boom is straight forward. As the crane turns it pulls on the attached string and pulls the magnet up.
