Interesting what Ric Morgan says above about the color used for this train. He tells me that this is the color-accurate photo he mentions:

I don't want to start "Color Wars" of the kind that inspired a previous thread about SP Daylights but the above looks a bit faded where the red in the star motif is shown. There's another version of this photo on page 1 of this thread which definitely has a more blue cast to it.

Here's another one that may be close to accurate, and which I particularly like for the locals depicted in it:

Frankly, if they made the model in the electric blue shown in another photo earlier in this thread I wouldn't complain. I think that when Challenger Imports did the HO version it was in something much more blue than blue-green but I am going simply by photos of that set.

"Cerulean." I had to look that up! But I agree about the pamphlets, which all show a greenish cast to the color and which probably are more reliable in terms of what GM intended than modern digital copies of magazine photographs.

I also agree that Scott will do his best to produce an accurate representation of the original color.

Cerulean in no interpretation can describe the color of this train. This is a sample of Cerulean...

Good reminder, Emile. The last time I saw an update, less than ten sets remained that were available for purchase. With only 70 sets to be done, this will be a very rare set.

Many thanks go to Forum member Keith who kept this train front-minded for the manufacturers for many years. Finally Scott agreed to do it. Good for 3rd Rail. I am looking forward to it's arrival.

By the way, Emile, you have good taste.

To quote the philospher SpongeBob SquarePants, "I'm Ready! I'm Ready! I'm Ready!"

I have postponed some other purchases (like the Legacy 990 command set) and been selling some excess engines/rolling stock so I have now have cash in hand for my set! yeah!!!

Do y'all think those photos are 2rail O or HO?

My thoughts as well, but there's what appears to be a thumbtack on the observation.

I understand that those are photos of O scale production samples (I know 3rd Rail sometimes uses HO brass models in pre-production publicity but that's not the case here). If you look at the close up of the dome car in the flyer copied below you'll see what I think is the overhead lighting in the domes, which no HO version of this train has.

The two rail ToT is described as having digital sound. The three rail version, while having ERR Cruise, doesn't have any mention of sound anywhere. Should I assume this E7 will not have any form of RailSounds?

No, please do not assume that. ALL the Sunset/3rd Rail/GGD E7 models for 3-Rail, came with appropriate EMD sounds from ERR. In fact, I put the same ERR "TMCC package" in my Williams E7A units, prior the the Sunset/3rd Rail/GGD E7 units production, and they sound ver good.

"A sample will probably be at York since Scott intends to bring one back when he returns from China just before York"

WOW, thanks for the report. This is a real plus for those of us who ordered this set and who are going to York. I didn't expect to see it before the UPS guy arrived.

The first photo is definitely the HO model, because it is the same pic that I posted on Nov. 20, 2013(the day this thread started).

I'm excited to read that there might be a sample at York...I'm not going, but my buddy Brian can fill me in on what he thinks of the set.

I was reading Ric Morgan's book on the train of tomorrow, when my wife commented on how unique it looked. I told her about the upcoming model, but explained that it wasn't possible with my current train budget. She gave me an exasperated look and said "well your self employed, give yourself a raise!" Gotta love her! Unable to combat that logic, I placed my order!! Looking forward to seeing it at York.
