b. I have a bunch of pita issues around here for someone who thinks it's fun to take care of them (and has the time to deal with it).

The rivets are soft, I am replacing all with 6-14251 die cast sprung from Lionel. I made a jig by tapping a Philips head into wood block. I turn the flatcar upside down and press rivet onto Phillips which holds rivet from moving when I drill , takes about 9 seconds if you do need to replace the trucks. I fasten new trucks with #6 hardware.
Menards puts a beautiful sprung truck on the 14" flatcars that I wish they would offer outright.
