Tds,

I would really recommend a solid roadbed cut from plywood with a saber saw when elevating Atlas track. The roadbed can be supported by wood blocks or risers.

Atlas rails are held in place on the ties by tiny plastic nibs that don't have a lot of strength. Most trestle sets only support track where sections meet. The unsupported part of each section would be subjected to lots of flexing under all but the lightest trains.

BTW...  For those of you looking for graduated pier/trestle sets for Fastrack, be aware that MTH has released a version of their graduated piers specifically for Fastrack.  Its stock number is 40-1113.  The top pieces were redesigned to specifically retain the Fastrack roadbed.

It has a few advantages over Lionel's Fastrack graduated trestle set.

First it's about $20.00 less expensive at the MSRP level...$54.95 vs $74.99.

Second, it has 24 pieces vs Lionel's 22 pieces.  That means the incline is more gradual (but not much, so).

Third, it has a more massive stone pier appearance which complements the apparent weight of the trains it supports.

It's a nice alternative, IMHO, for Fastrackers.
