It is a family tradition here. I'm not saying how many bags we have, but if it were real and we needed to heat the house, we wouldn't freeze for the entire winter.
Though the rivalry will never cease between Lionel and MTH as far as engines, rolling stock, track, control systems and other stuff goes, I can assure you that each company's bag of coal burns exactly the same...

I've taken the little cloth bags Lionel Coal comes in and put treats and give them out during the holidays....
I've also put a bag of Lionel in the kids stocking!

I think this thread is making a point: model railroaders like bags of coal.
Besides, they justify buying or making Naughty and Nice freight cars for appropriate loads.
