I have been meaning to write this post for a few weeks now. I travel with some regularity for my job. My company has offices in Detroit, Ann Arbor, Richmond, Baltimore and Washington. My trips to the Michigan offices have allowed me to get a number of Menards items. But Richmond has only every been a source for Rail Faning. That is until now. Google searches told me that there was a train shop in Ashland, but co-worker in the Richmond office told me it was just a toy store. That was on my first trip down 3 years ago. On my most recent trip to the Richmond office I figured what the heck ill check this place out. The words Blown Away to not do this place justice. (Last time I trust the word of the H.O. enthusiast.)

Tiny Tim’s Trains & Toys has an amazing selection of Lionel, MTH, Altas and even some Menards products! I walked away with all the rolling stock I needed to go with my new B&O pacific (thank you Mr.Muffin). I have an early morning commuter milk train, Lionel B&O milk wagon, 2 pack atlas heavy weight passenger cars, Atlas undecorated heavyweight dark green (pool service car!) and even a book on milk trains.

If all of that was not enough the main CSX line runs right in front of the shop, I got to see 3 trains run by including the Juice Train. (I have never seen modern refrigerator cars before, it was a real treat.) I also saw what I latter learned was a garbage train, modular cubes, but not husky style.

The shop has a good collection of books, HO, G and yes some toys, but is 90% Model trains. I corrected Mr.HO and he admitted that it has been ten years since he went to the shop. He said he would need to check it out again.

If you are ever in Richmond, VA the 25 minute drive North to Tiny Tim’s Trains & Toys is well worth your time. I have told my boss that there is a much greater need for me to visit Richmond, at least once a month. If only I can convince my bank account of the same!A5765CEB-0F67-4F00-8FB2-419C3CCA9344319B3AAD-F0F4-453B-93D5-3D3F97BCC51047107AAE-2F5F-4128-AC1C-DE3E076BCB79

I've been going to this store since I was like 6, it's a great place and was one of the many things that cemented this hobby into my life. I think the "toy store" version your friend mentioned was from the early 20-teens when the original owner sold it. Only went to that version once and ended up not coming back till the version we see today when I started going to college.

The store owner’s name is Russel, he’s a genuine stand up dude,…..awesome shop…every time I’m up that way I always stop in and pick up something,…..great places to eat right around his store, and do a lot of railfanning right there,…..can’t ask for a better way to spend an afternoon……grab some trinkets, eat a good lunch, and catch some train action……can’t be beat,….and you gotta see Mr. Kenny on his bicycle …..he’s a trip,….

Love Richmond, VA and the surrounding area. Graduated from UR spent some time after the end of each year hanging around and staying with friends who lived nearby and visited a handful of times after graduation-but not since 2016. Despite UR being outside of the city, I love the city, the suburbs and neighborhoods, Carytown, Short Pump, Tobacco House, Buzz and Neds BBQ, Jimmie John's, Hollywood Cemetery, I could go on and on! Really would love to get back down there again and will certainly check out Tiny Tim's- thanks for the heads up!

When my company acquired the Richmond office I had a lot of “ideas” of what Richmond was going to be like. In short I was wrong about every single one. To sum it all up the last thing in the world I thought I was going to see was a town with Competing Taqueria’s! I love Richmond so much more than I thought I would the food is amazing and cheep( I live in the dc bubble, so I may be a little jaded) the music, the museums, The multiculturalism. Richmond is so much more than what happened there from 186x-186x. Between this train store and the number of converging rail lines it’s a great place to spend a long weekend!

I used to live in Williamsburg.  When friends would visit from out of state, if they were interested in history, I'd take them to Hollywood Cemetery.  People were always blown away by all the notables buried there.

As luck would have it, just happened to be driving through here for a work trip and I stopped for a look.

Had a great conversation with one of the ladies (Sonja) 16467748466486339862708764023636who was so incredibly friendly and excited to listen to me talk about dad's trains... It was a real contrast from the more "gruff" train store folks I've dealt with.

Even gave me a free magnet as I walked out the door!

Didn't buy anything, but if I was in the market for something I'd 100 percent throw some cash their way!

And I got to see Amtrak rumble past the front door as I left! 20220308_13555820220308_13581020220308_143036
