My MTH hand unit did the same until I put some extra padding on the cover to keep the batteries from moving around. The batteries will work lose in these unit and cause the unit to shut down.
Yes, there is a timer and you can change value. G

Yes, there is. It's in the System/Remote Setup menu.
From page 46 of The DCS Companion 3rd Edition:
DCS release 4.0 or later allows the DCS operator to select how long a DCS Remote will wait if it's not been used before powering down to conserve battery power. To set the Remote Powerdown time, use the thumbwheel to scroll to REMOTE POWERDOWN and press the thumbwheel to select it
• To set the number of minutes before powering down, use the thumbwheel to scroll to a value between 1 and 60 minutes, and press the thumbwheel to cause the DCS Remote to sleep after that many minutes. The new value and a message indicating that the new value has been saved, will be displayed
• Press the Menu key to return to the top level menu

Well I guess I have more problems. I haven't played trains in about three years. My DCS is 3.10 and I only have edition 2 of Barry's Manual.
Can't remember how to upgrade the DCS. Is it in the owners manual or Barry's manual? Probably both I'm guessing.
Where do I get Barry's latest version?
OK found and ordered Barry's manual.
