I know others have did a tribute to the boy wizard, so I was wanting to get some ideas. I'm looking for figures < 2" tall and maybe a castle. Does anyone know where I can find these at a reasonable price? Just got back from Universal and after paying the $360 entrace fee and $30 in butterbeer, I want to go on the cheap. they've got enough money out of me! thanks, jeff

As you have probably already discovered, only LEGO makes a plastic Hogwarts castle that is usable on a layout. However, if you are willing to do a little work, you can build your own out of paper at 1/160th scale. The castle is available as a pdf download here.Take it to your nearest printer and have then print it on heavy cardstock. Then get some white glue, a very sharp hobby knife, a lot of patience, and have at it! Please post your results!

I believe these figures would work for you.  I purchased a set of these off of eBay, and the figures are 1-3/16" to 1-1/4" tall.  I just looked on eBay, and there is another set listed with some other ornaments for less than $5.00.  I also saw where there is another set by Enesco with different figures that look to be about the same size.

When looking for such items to spark some interesting dioramas on the layout I go to the gamers store in our mall…they have many military, trolls, wizards, dragons, castles and other figures and machines to go with such games as Dungeons and Dragons.  A great source and not to expensive if you get the unpainted figures in either resin or metal.

the smaller size figures are great for forced perspective when placed away from the edge or up a hill/mountain…

Sometimes I rummage through my grandsons toy figures before they toss them or donate at Christmas…

good things to find in paces not normally explored…

As mentioned above, Walmart has cast metal Harry Potter figures. They are a little over six scale feet tall and look OK for O scale. They come five in a pack. They have large bases (see figure on left). As shown in the photo below, I cut the bases off of two of them and sprayed them with flat finish. I plan to use them on my layout. Most people would probably not recognize them as Harry Potter figures. You will find these in Walmart in the toy aisle with action figures. They have Batman, Superman, Marvel, Wrestling figures, etc.
