I have the  full set of Harry's Big Mo train. He was my  close friend. He did make an engine cab for the Big Mo Train. I have the engine on my layout. It was a Lionel Cab. Custom painted and decaled by Harry. He passed away before the actual powered engine was completed. Upon his passing, I helped with some the items he still had for sale. Among the rolling stock and engines were the cab proto types. I received those from Harry's widow at the time. I found a compatible Lionel chassis and now I have the whole train. I also have several nice cardboard buildings for O gauge, that  Harry made personally. We became good friends and when I traveled to Meadville, I would always get together with Harry. I would go through the trailer with the trains. The layout was very beautiful and depicted certain periods of history and landscapes. Just wanted to add this FYI.

While I did not know him personally outside of chatting at the York Meets, I collected his series as well.  I ordered the engine when first offered, but had to give up and eventually requested my deposit back as Harry went through the challenges that caused it to not be made.

Weaver eventually made an engine that went very well with the set.  It goes pretty nicely with the cars.  I'll have to dig it out to take a picture.

I do not have any information on the Weaver Engine, although I have seen a picture of the engine. Harry Turner nd I became Great friend thru my brother-in-law who lived in Meadville, PA.  I would often go to his store/shop in Cochranton, located at the fairgrounds. I have several train buildings and  cars from Harry. I have the complete BiG MO train, including an engine plus the truck trailer. After He passed away, I visited his shop and purchased a large amount of train items. His wife was there along with a couple of fellows Harry knew. Harry was frustrated with MTH and ATLAS over production issues. Harry decied to custom make several engines for the BIG MO line. He custom painted them. There wasn't a chassis at the time unless he had them in a hidden place.  The cab he painted was a Lionel product. I had  purchased one of the cabs.  After Harry had passed away , while helping to clean things up I found  a box with several more engine cabs that he had painted for assembly. The engine is sharp and really fits with the train cars. I found a chassis in a hobby store in Ohio. It was an engine with the exact chassis for that model Harry had built.

Harry was a Great Friend and I often wondered if his traveling layout was still the World's  Largest. Harry had other interests as well.   This is just an FYI.

Sounds like it might make--complete with photos and text, of course--a decent article for the magazine as long as it is not "published" here or elsewhere first. Would earn the author a little $, which always is nice. If interested, please contact me at editor@ogaugerr.com and will get the ball rolling.

Allan,

has Harry Turner's mobile layout ever been featured in O Gauge Magazine?  If so, any idea what issue?
