have they given up on making europian o guage locomotives and cars like the traxx or the taurus locomotives? seems used are even scarce to find these days.

I think that MTH was trying to crack the European market. I read Railway Modeller, and can't recall seeing much mention of them. Maybe the success was minimal.
Remember that MTH does built to order. So chances are those that are ordered and built are now owned by people that really wanted them, so are unlikely to be selling them. MTH still has some European rolling stock in the recent catalog. They don't make the same thing every time, but do cycle through them, so chances are within a couple years they'll make new what you are looking for.
