I recently purchased a used Lionel 6-34582 Canadian Pacific Legacy Scale F3 AA set manufactured in 2010.
I own several other TMCC and Legacy F3 or F7 AA or ABA sets, but none of them are a "Postwar Scale" set. When I start up all of my previous sets, the Dummy (non-powered) A unit has its headlight off, its backup light on, and the electrocoupler on the front of the engine fires when the rear coupler button on my Cab2 is pressed. (Conversely, the powered unit A has it's headlight on, backup light off, and the coupler fires when the front coupler button on the Cab2 is pressed,) When I press the reverse direction button on the Cab2 the backup light on the Dummy A goes off and the headlight comes on. (Conversely, the headlight on the powered A goes off and its backup light light comes on.) This all makes perfect sense because the Dummy A unit is facing "backwards" -- away from the powered A and towards the train itself.
When I start up the Canadian Pacific AA set, however, both units have their headlights on, their backup lights off, and both couplers fire when I press the front coupler button on the Cab2 (neither coupler fires when the rear coupler button is pressed). When I reverse direction, the headlights on both units turn off and their backup lights turn on. I've tried doing a "restore features" reset on the units but nothing changed.
Does anyone know if this is the way this particular AA set works out of the box, or is something wrong? It's kind of a pain having both couplers fire together!
Thanks for the help. John
