I have spent the morning hooking up a DCS system in passive mode for a friend. It didn't work. So we tried to hook it up more traditional and it still didn't work. It can't find any engines. We hooked it up with a transformer and a piece of straight track same issue. I tethered the remote to the tiu and it didn't work and the remote didn't indictate it was tethered. This is a Version L TIU with Software version 5.any suggestions?

Thanks,

Scott Smith

Hey Scott , what king of transformer are you using ?

I've been using the Z1000 with the remote and  TIU Version L and software 6.1 with the standard hookup for a long time now with mysteriously no issues .   I have used this system with or without the tether and I can't tell any difference.  I have 26 engine live so I use a seperate piece of 30 inch track to find a new engine with almost instantaneous results     Good luck sir.

Scott, the obvious thing to do is first isolate the problem to the remote or TIU.  Personally, it seems more likely to be the TIU.   Using the remote can you call up the TIU version?  If so, the remote is communicating with the TIU, so I'd suspect the TIU.

Did you power the TIU with aux power and try other channels?

Yes, and simple test like this can narrow in what's the issue.

i.e.= Do the engines stay silent at power up? (if yes, still check for power at rails)

is the TIU at address #1 (count blinks at power up). Can you reset them?

What are the DCS versions loaded in each?

etc., etc,

was the remote cord a 4 wire? ( yes, I bet you know that)

you have to start from scratch and see if stuff got changed. Assume everything is broke until you can prove it works.
