I recently dug all my DCS stuff (Remote, TIU, AIU) out because I want to try running trains from my iPhone and because I can finally really control everything in one place.
To reacquaint myself with it, I hooked up my Z-4000 to the fixed-1 channel input and the fixed-1 output to a 6 foot oval of track. I replaced the batteries in the remote with newly purchased Duracells and tethered the remote to the TIU. There is nothing else hooked up and I have triple checked the connections. I don't have crossed wires anywhere. Well... on the loop anyway. ;-) My test engine is the PS2 Air Force one. It has been on the shelf for a LONG time and may need charging but it seems to work fine in conventional mode. After powering up, it will sit in idle and run through its sounds.
The problem is that I can't get it into command mode. I am pretty sure this is not an engine problem but one with my TIU. I got the error message about the remote not being able to find TIU #1 so I paid particular attention to the red LED when I powered up. It doesn't light at all, let alone blink. I opened up the TIU and checked the fuse for fixed-1 and it looked OK. I'm going to pull the others and look at them too after I finish this post. After that, I'm stuck.
I'm thinking about resetting both the TIU and remote to factory settings. Will that cause me to lose any upgrades? I don't mind having to add and set up engines again. What steps should I take next? I think the TIU is a rev B if that helps. Thanks in advance for your help.
