IT appears to be a crude and early rendering of an ALCO DL109.
That's certainly on oldie. I'm sure someone either here or at the MTJ forum will be able to identify it...

First thing that came to my mind was a Dl 109 too.Old yes. But then, how old is a real DL 109.?The machanics do look like the 40s. Looks also first production in 1939.
I don't pay much attention to locomotives i consider ugly, but there was an article about this one in a TCA Quarterly about two decades ago. Time to ask on the 3-rail forum.
I believe the carbody casting was produced by a company called Bay-State Models, . The June '75 issue of Vane Jone's O Scale Railroading has two separate photos of these both finished in different New Haven schemes, one in three rail and the other 2-rail owned by the late Jan Lorenzen. From my experience a fairly rare doorstop, can you definitively determine the casting material? Bake-lite or bronze or ??? Regardless a nice find, thanks for sharing the photos.
Sorry for the delay Trainemaine- the 6-75 OST issue sites only two photos of this Locomotive or Engine, it provides no insight into their respective drive trains , either two or three rail. For three rail I would suggest considering adapting a donor A1A trucked chassis from an Lionel or MTH PA , as in grinding the chassis plate to fit, and working the inside of the casting to fit with a mini-grinder. Two rail, I'd look for a CLW PA drive train and trucks. I'm sure the brain trust here can straighten this out better than I can, but again, I really like those old O scale diesel car body castings like this Bay State DL.
