Hi all,
This morning I picked up a 10E and four cars: 512, 513, 515, and 517. I also got a postwar ZW transformer with lock-ons, a bunch of track, a switch, a bag of parts for the engine, and a track bumper.. for $75.
The engine is a McCoy, so while it probably has no collector value, the wheels spun freely and there was no corrosion or rust on any of the mechanical parts. The gray paint on the tin shell is in poor shape, and the freight cars have rust on the wheels and axles that should clean up ok. The track is pretty rusty. The ZW has a bad power cord but looks otherwise very clean.
So, can anyone help tell me what I have here? Curious if the 10E is 100% McCoy, when it was made, or if it is just a McCoy motor and possibly an original frame/body? Also wondering if the cars are original or also reproductions?
My plan is to fix up the set and use around the Christmas tree, so any advice on where to start with the engine would be greatly appreciated. This was a total impulse buy from my neighbor - what have I gotten myself into?
I defer to the expertise of the forum!
Thanks,
Kevin
