The Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society has raised over $6,000 for its effort to restore Nickel Plate Road SD9 diesel locomotive no. 358.
The dedicated restoration crew is making good progress meeting the $35k goal and restoring the locomotive to service. Details and additional progress pics here: https://fortwaynerailroad.org/2018/03/project-358-makes-strides-into-new-year/
The 358 was built in 1957 to replace steam locomotives like Nickel Plate no. 765 and will eventually operate in tandem service with the locomotive as additional motive power during excursions and public events and help the story of the transition from steam to diesel.
