I am hooking up my last accessory to my layout and ran into a problem.

I am using the pw 151 semaphore which has 3 terminals with the 151IR controller.

The instructions for the semaphore in the manual has instructions for the modern semaphore which only has two terminals.

Can someone please walk me through the correct hookup for the three terminal semaphore?

Thanks in advance

George

On the 151 there are three connection.  One is a common connection.  The binding post for this connection should be rivited directly to the base.  The othe two binding posts are insulated.  One of the two remaining posts lights the lamp, which on a semaphore is lit continuously. The third post goes to the coil that operates the arm.  This is the connection that is turned on and off to make the arm go up and down. Connect the common binding post to the U post on your transformer. Than take a wire from about 12 volts of power and touch it to one of the two remaining posts.  One will make the light come on and the other will make the arm go up and down. Sorry I do not have the literature here to tell you which post is which by the numbers cast into the pase.

I wanted to clarify,  the manual I was referring to was the one for the 153 IR.  It has instructions for the modern day semaphore which has two connections.  My semaphore has three.

David thank you, the middle terminal is the riveted one to the base so that's the common/ground one so I guess I connect the common/ground to the common post on the 153 IR and keep switching the other wires to the terminals until it works right?

On the 153 IR, I believe the output has four connections, hot, common, normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC).  On the 151 signal you want to connect the common to the 153IR common, the power for the light bulb to the hot terminal, and the coil that makes the arm go down to the normally open contact.  Connected like this the light in the signal will be on all the time and the arm will go down to the red position when the train goes by the IR device and will stay down as long as you have the time delay set for.
