Lionel GG-1 6-18343 use with dcs

Lionel base and MTH cable from TIU to base will get you started.

Not sure if the DCS remote can operate all the TMCC features. (Have it hooked up but no one attempts to use them all.)

As mentioned, you'll need a TMCC command base and the MTH cable at a minimum to run that in command mode.  If you want to run in conventional mode, you can do that with just the TIU/Remote, but you won't have access to all the features.

Not sure if the DCS remote can operate all the TMCC features.

If using DCS 4.0 or higher, then all features of any TMCC engine should be available.

Barry, that's an AC motored locomotive, and one of the features typically used is setting the TMCC stall voltage.  You can't do that from the DCS remote.

Out if curiosity, have you tried to set the stall voltage via the DCS Remote?

Sometimes, as in editing a TMCC engine's TMCC ID#, the remote performs an internal execution of what the SET button does.

Barry, you have to put the SET button to start the stall sequence.  After setting the voltage, you save the stall setting with the SET button again.  I'm not sure I can visualize how to do that.

If Barry is correct how do i find the engine with DCS remote for gg1 Lionel diesel? i did notice under advance setting there is a legacy option in the remote!

Unlike proto-2 engines TMCC engines have to manually added. If fact you can try it right now.  go to Menu/System/ engine set up/ Add engine / Add TMCC engine.

A list of letters comes up... Name the engine anything you want and hit the "D: for done, Now a list of TMCC address comes up, this the address to  use using when using a  cab  -1 .If you know it use it , If not you now have a engine added to the remote and you can edit the TMCC address following the on screen instruction on the dcs remote

You still need  a command base and TMCC/TIU cable for anything to work.

if it uses a rs 232 cord i already have one, if not let me know which one and where i can purchase the tow items. does anyone have a used TMCC COMMAND BASE AND CHORD?

Maybe you already know this but if not, before you spend money to be able to access the TMCC features be advised that that GG-1 has a very early version of TMCC with limited features.  Unlike later engines it does not have a horn, bell, tower dispatch announcements, crew talk or TMCC-controlled couplers.

It would probably be fine just running conventional, since it also doesn't have cruise control anyway.

thanks all and Barry says ill try to set te stall voltage, but will have to read how to do that part. i have purchased the command base ,just have to read how to connect it which looks simple but will have to read how to run in legacy mode with  the DCS remote.some mentioned this engine does not have PFA sounds but i believe it does because my hobby shop ran it for me with his command mode and his remote.i only bought the command base will se how that works out i hope i can access the PFA announcements and if that works i won't bother buying the remote as i mostly want DCS mat engines, love the simplicity of operation with DCS it's Great!

John what would it take to get cruise control in the GG1? also did you read my other post about getting a 10k pot for the lionel controller153 Ir, 6-14111.

also WFTrains the gg1 does have bell and whistle and PFA sounds i heard them when I took it to my hobby shop because i knew he had command base and remote!

Yes, the 18343 from '01 has sound....there's obviously some confusion with the silent 18313, the first GG1 with TMCC from 1995

Adding cruise depends on the motors.  if the 18343 has the old Pullmors then you can't upgrade.

Thank you for clarifying that as I obviously misread the number in the subject line as 6-18313 which I have.  Sorry Alan and other readers for any confusion.  Maybe I’ll read better after I get my cataracts removed like my eye doctor says I need to do!

What makes it an even worse mistake for me is that I also have a 6-18343 (the repro of the post-war Black 2332).  And to answer your question the 6-18313 and the 6-18343 both have pull-mor motors.

No cruise with AC motors Alan.  I can't see how you can set the stall voltage with the DCS remote, you need a SET button to do that little trick.
