One Spot Twins in HO by The Division Point.

Here is the deal why I am sharing HO with you guys/gals; I like this model and locomotive- A LOT. I would like to see this model done in O scale (bucket-list). The Division Point is willing and waiting to produce O scale today; Ajin Precision built these pieces and we have all the research and G.O.D.'s ready to go for an O scale pilot sample. I would also like to see the early diesels/distillates in O scale. CB&Q's EA's in stainless, Rock Island's TA's. ATSF's later modified One Spot units as Bulldogs etc. At this point it is a wish- I might place an ad in the magazines and see what kind of response we get. 

 

This is a great model, and a very interesting prototype.

Going to be some interesting discussions re the colors.  The renderings I've seen show the main body as olive green and the roof a medium blue.  According to John McCall there are no color photos of the units.  The picture of them on the cover of "Diesel Daze" is based on a tinted photo provided by the Santa Fe.

It was a very interesting battle color choosing for these. Hallmark made them in the Bronco's color scheme and some other various shades.... 

 

This model was scrutinized heavily by the ATSF Historical people and some very renowned experts in the ATSF community. The "Golden Olive" in this model I feel is fabulous and very accurate. The Deep green base and light blue roof were matched to records that were discovered or brought into the project. These ATSF guys wanted them as right as possible; it is believed by the majority of the community involved these are very correct.

 

This HO set is very rare and highly sought after by both collectors and operators in the brass market.  They normally sell for roughly double the MSRP in 2006.

Division Points Olive is much nicer than the Olive that is on the cover of McCall's book which shades more to green.  Here is what McCall says about the colors..."The colors are not entirely correct for the locomotive as delivered.  An historically correct rendition would substitute a medium blue (Dupont named it Saratoga Blue) on the roof of the locomotive above the "Pimpernel Scarlet" accent stripes.  The "Super Chief Golden Olive", the black belt-stripe and the "Cobalt Blue" lower areas are correct."

I like the idea. Can't afford one but I still like it. My question to you is about matching the paint on the Atlas Zephyr cars to a pair of Weaver E8s. I tried AlCald, 1 ounce would not cover the E. I am going to try some Tru-Color silver then over spray with black to tone it down. Am I crazy? Any suggestions?

A skilled modeller realized the evolution of Andy and Amos in O scale, after ATSF transformed these two ugly ducklings into something more palatable:

 

 

These were for sale on E-Bay but disappeared before the end of the auction. I was in touch with their owner at one time and made an offer, but never heard back from him. He may have found some richer enthusiast....

Erik: The ATSF Amos and Andy would be great to see in brass. Heck any locomotive would be great to see in brass. Though they would not be on my want/need list, I feel that there far too many other projects needed before these are made. How about RS3, H12-44s. SD40-s, alco T6 in PRR and N&W, NS SD70Ace Heritage, RS11/12s, SD7/9/18/24/26s, passenger GP7/9 with roof tanks, C44-9W or AC4400 etc. How about the Wabash Blue Bird E8s all dome cars in Wabash and N&W paint schemes.

I'd be in for a 3rd Rail/GGD set of Amos/Andy, Silver King/Knight, Queen/Princess.  Actually I'd be in for an entire articulated Denver Zephyr.  Scott has received basically zero request directly (other than me).   My guess is it would require reservations for about 50 complete sets @$4K for 2 locomotives and 12 cars.

No, you're not! I'd be in for both a Denver Zephyr or a Q E5 in O scale.

Agreed: Scott is the best chance to pull this off affordably.

However, you'll need some of the O3R crowd to join in...IMHO, of course...if you hope to hit Scott's minimum.  So, I hope the encouragement finds its way into MY (and others) corner of the dwindling O following.

And, Scott!.....As much as this mugly ug was, indeed, the foretaste of things to come in the 'Fe day' (and the Beano Box on steroids), the more memorable icons are.....again....for the umpteenth time...

These were in the original offering for the Sunset Early E units.  Insufficient reservations ensued because it would require an additional mold as the shell is fundamentally different.  It was hoped a slide mold could handle it cost effectively but the builder said no.

You call that more "palatable"? I thisnk the original design wad much better than this rendition.
