Overhead of maintaining a shop in a city?  We have a similar shop located in the least expensive suburb of a mid-sized city.  All of these are labors of love by people who are hobbyists, which tells us about the practicality of the business model.  Even in NYC, the remaining shops are those of long standing and not located in high cost areas like Manhattan.  Enjoy it while it lasts, I guess.
