Thoughts on the Lionel Polar Express Streamliner Diesel set. Personally I would love to get it sadly don't have the room though. Still a great set. What does everyone else think about this set?

I like it. It is a nice-looking set and it is a perfect way to add a second or third loop for those who have the steam passenger and freight sets, or those that want an all-PE theme to a layout. It also lets kids with an imagination go beyond what was in the book or film.
IMHO, you can't have too much of a good thing, and having a wider variety of starter sets is a great way to appeal to a wide variety of interests and tastes. I see no sense in wanting more people to get started in the hobby and then limiting what they can choose to start with.

I've got a short video posted there. I have no love for the movie, but the Polar RR freight livery is gorgeous. Was very glad to add the streamliner to my roster.
Got it. Like it a lot. Even, warm lighting in the cars. Opening doors. Passenger seats and a bathroom. No passengers but you can easily add your own.
I agree with those that said "I like it". Lionel has taken the liberty to introduce many PE products that were not in the movie, but that does not make this product undesirable. Really sharp looking train set.
I also like it. I may get it in the future but right now I am very happy with the original set and my newly acquired Peanut's passenger set that I put with the Peanut's steam engine which I got through a set break-up.
I like the original book
The whole Polar Express thing is way over rated. It was not that great of a story or movie. The animation of the kids faces is downright spooky looking at times.
I prefer some of the real railroad designs for the FT, the CP rail version is a real nice looking set.
I have the original version of the set, but rarely run it at Christmas, I prefer the much more colorful trains you can get, they are much more festive running around the tree.
A candy cane version would have ben better!
Had it been legacy, I probably would have ordered this set.
A good idea. Now a newcomer can have a choice. Steam or diesel.
Nice set. But don't need it.
I like it and my grandkids prefer diesels over steam locos anyway.
Also love the set and would like to hear from those of you who've put passengers in the cars. What size figures? Whose figures did you use? Where did you get them?
