How do I remove wood deck from LIONEL 6-82705 READING PS-4 FLATCAR

Any idea how this wood deck might come off? I want to paint the model and thought it would be easier to take it apart rather than mask it.

I suspect it's these pins on the top. I don't see how I could get those out without damaging something.
