The screws are on the bottom of the car, four if I remember right. You may have to gently push in on the body sides when you remove the roof. I did this to my sons RK daylight cars about fifteen years ago and it makes a big difference with the look.

Use a hot glue gun to mount your folks. It holds but the glue can be removed if you ever wont to retrieve your passengers.

The RK seats are not scale so you will have a little problem getting some citizens to fit. I had to cut a few legs off. That said, try to find S Scale people 1/64th. They fit with plenty of room and your not really going to notice the size differential.

Have Fun, you'll love the effect.

To open the MTH RK Cars, there is a screw (sometimes two) at each end, usually under the coupler or at least in that area. Take those screws out. The roof won't pop off however. There are plastic tabs holding the roof to the body. Take each end of the car and twist the car in opposite directions, putting a little pressure on the roof with your thumb or finger.

I know this sounds a little "violent" or crude but this is how MTH instructions describe taking the roof off the cars.

Timely post as I was struggling with getting the MTH Vista Dome car open.  I was saved by a passing comment, "... this is how MTH instructions ..."  It didn't dawn on me until then that the car comes with instructions for opening it!  To put figures in the MTH 30-67812 Vista Dome Car it takes more effort than the other MTH cars.  There are 16 screws to keep track of.  In addition to the inline photo, the instructions are attached.
