Does the signal go from the ipad - router- wifi antenna on layout - legacy base - track - locomotive?  Also what hardware do you need to set up the wifi system?  I use the Lionel cab-2 controller now and I like it (I only have Lionel locomotives).  But I might add a wifi option, this winters project.  Also can you use the ipad and the cab-2 controller at the same time for two different locomotives?  Thank you in advance.

At minimal you need the WiFi app currently only available on the iOS platform, a Legacy Base, a 6-81325 LCS WiFi Module, and a 6-81499 LCS DB-9 Cable with Power Supply.

How you communicate with the LCS WiFi adapter is up to you.  You can connect it to your own home network or communicate directly to it.

The communication path would be from the App device to the router to the LCS WiFi or directly to the LCS WiFi module depending on which setup you take, to the Legacy Base to the track and locomotive.

Yes you can use the App and Cab 2 at the same time.

This page will help you along.  Lionel LCS
