Will be staying very close to the York fairgrounds Thursday night but not walking distance. What time should I arrive on Friday to get decent parking? Last year I went on Saturday and there was no parking problem at all.

I have never had a problem finding parking in the big lots near the Orange Hall even right at opening time on Fridays. I don't know about parking around the other halls, though.
If you need a prime spot though, then the earlier, the better. It would be up to how long you feel like sitting around.

I always parked on the grass/in the area between the fence along the road and the orange hall (if walking into o hall front door, on the right of the building) and have always had plenty of room. However, since I'll be based out of the black hall for the weekend, I'll get my first experience over there.....
30 minutes before opening and you should have no issue getting near to where you want. By 8:45 the choice spots are full but you can still be fairly close to the halls.
Back in 1998 when I started attending I would gauge the attendance by how full the race track field by the grandstand was. Sadly, there is still a fair amount parking there later in the morning, but not near the volume it once was. I think Thursday opening had a part in reducing the Friday morning gridlock that used to take place.
Enjoy!

You will almost certainly have no problem finding a decent parking spot on Friday, regardless of when you show up. As Marty noted, it's not like the old days when parking was at a premium.
No problem!

Because you are young and can tough it out unlike us old people
Back to the question, arriving about 30 minutes before the show, never had a problem parking near the Orange Hall
Its easy to find a parking spot. May have to walk a bit, but I'm motivated! Those trains are waiting for me!
I like to park in the infield. It's close to the bathroom under the grandstand and not far from the Orange Hall where I always started. I then work my way to the left and back to the car.
Never say never, but I've never had any parking problems at York. I usually get there Thursdays before opening but have to miss Thursday this year. Will drive up (less than 2 hours for me) on Friday morning.
Don't care where I park since I walk about five miles anyway. At least it feels like it. I have been walking three to five miles a day the past week or so to prepare. I'll bring a pedometer so see how many steps it really is to hit all of the halls.
