Getting late so I'm going to buy Super O curve track for the around the Christmas tree loop. How many pieces will make a circle?

No. Its not 8. Thats what it is in tubular track.
It takes 12 pieces of standard o36inch super o to make a circle. Each curve is 30deg.
Why Bob said... still have the Super-O from my first train back in the 60’s... here are 6 pieces -

EDIT: I caught a great deal at Mario's Trains and bought Gargraves 031.
Just a note,when you buy the Super O Track don't forget to get the Power Bus Connectors ( Item 31-7) for the Center Rail. You will need 1 Connector per end of track. They are easily available on Ebay. I bought a few extras. I have a 42" x 48" board with a loop of Super O for my Christmas Layout.
