How strong the 251?

I was out shopping last night, and came across a train for sale, consisting of 5 Lionel 71x passenger cars being pulled by a Lionel 251 Electric. First off, this is the first time I guess I ever saw a 251 in person, and was surprised to see its size relative to the 253. I did not buy the set, because I already have a MTH 256 pulling a 71x set, but I was curious on how the single motor of the 251 does with all those cars, or if the previous owner was just optimistic.

251 was available with a 3 car set of the 700 passenger cars. Would have a weighted frame and with that they can be pulled. % maybe with oil and free rolling wheels. 256 looks better pulling them
