Due to the slower performance of the 1964-66 Hudsons will a motor from the 783,784, and 785 fit in the old 773?

The motor will probably fit, but the gearing is identical in all the locos. Unless the newer motor spins much faster, which I doubt, performance would be identical.

Scott, about ten years ago, when I repaired for a Lionel Service Station, I did indeed put a new, ball bearinged, large stack modern motor in my '64 773.
I noticed improvement in all areas: top end, smoothness, pulling ability and fewer amps drawn.
As I remember it was a pretty easy swap.
I'd to thank you guy for your responses. In the past I've relubed it with great results. Having other Hudsons has more or less killed the motivation for a motor swap but I've always wondered if it was possible.

John, would you elaborate on this. What modern motor did you install?
