We were a little late in taking down our Christmas Tree this year as we had some delayed visitors because of the flu who wanted to visit us and the layout before we took the Christmas Tree down. Yesterday we started to take it down and from start to finish, including putting everything away in storage, it took us four hours. It took us two days to put it up.

The same thing holds true for layouts. It normally takes us many months and years to complete a layout. When we decide to change it or take it down, it usually takes just a few days to accomplish the demolition.

Do you agree?

Not so at our house. Taking down the Christmas tree (7' tall and about 4' around at bottom, fake) involves packing up all those Hallmark ornaments in their original boxes. It takes forever. Of course during set up, my wife and daughter are all excited to help. I usually take it down when they are still at work/school.

This year I left the oval of track set up for an extra week so I could run the Christmas trains a few more times. I just finally got the stuff packed up last weekend, and the boxes returned to under the layout a few days ago.

Our tree was also late in coming down because of late visitors.

It all depends on how you look at things though, it takes about a month to set up my platform because of all the wiring and it takes about two months to take it down but thats because Im slow to take it down lol

oh, and the tree is gone but the trains are still up

I personally like your tradition. It is a sad day for us when the Christmas Tree comes down as it gives us a great deal of pleasure.

We did however leave our North Pole Christmas layout up as it is located in another part of our home that does not interfere with our daily activities. We still have more visitors scheduled to visit us before we will dismantle it.

Thanks to all of your for your responses.

I can't stand taking down the tree--too depressing for me for some reason.   The last several years my wife and son have been kind enough to do it for me when I'm out of the house.   This year as in the last few, I've returned home from Trainstock to find the tree completely taken down and put away.   They pick that day as they figure I'll be in a good mood from hanging out with my train friends...and they couldn't be more correct nor me more grateful that they put thought into taking it down.
