I have several ASC3000 units that I want to use to control Tortoise switch machines. I changed the default momentary setting to steady on by programming switch 99 per the instructions. This worked great and I am able to switch the Tortoise with constant power. However, I have one ASC3000 controller that will not let me switch from momentary to constant on. I suspect that this may be due to an earlier software version in the ASC30000. Is anyone able to confirm that early versions of the ASC30000 lacked the ability to change switch function between momentary and continuous on? Or do I have a defective unit?

Dan,
I had this problem with one of my ASC3000 controllers and forgot it also needed to be programmed. Did you program that non-working ASC3000 to provide constant power? Each ASC has to be programmed to work with the tortoise. If you attach a device that requires momentary power does it work? Also do the lights on the ASC blink when you address them? Hope this might help.

Thanks Marty. I have tested some more and confirmed that one of my four ASC3000 operates differently than the others - it is "semi-functioning." The semi-functioning ASC3000 works fine in momentary mode, but when programming for constant power, it changes the Switch ID to 97-99. It works fine if setup for accessory control (i.e., AUX1 momentary, AUX2 constant).
I purchased all four of my ASC3000's directly from TrainAmerica in June 1999. What is interesting is that the semi-functioning ASC3000 has a black program/run jumper, the other three all have gray jumpers. Also, I have one version 1.2 manual and three v1.3 manuals. The v1.2 manual does contain the section entitled "Setting Switch Output Time." I am now reasonably confident that the early version ASC3000's did not have the constant power functionality programmed in them.
This was frustrating because I kept thinking I wasn't following instructions accurately. Now I know that this one "semi-functioning" ASC is different.
Other than the black jumper and manual, there is nothing to distinguish the ASC3000 versions. It would be interesting to know if all of the "semi-functioning" versions have black jumpers and the fully functional versions have gray jumpers.

Dan,
I have looked all over the net and could not find the 1.2 version of the manual. Everything I have come across is that you must change the operating mode to constant power.
To set the switch controller to constant operation • Remove the jumper from the ASC3000 • Select the SW followed by the number, 99 SW • Press the SET button on the hand held to set the address The LED will Long Blink steady for one (1) second if the command is accepted. After the address has been set. This sequence can be done either before or after the initial address is set. Make sure to replace the jumper for normal operation.
this is just a long shot, is the jumper good?
