Good Day,
I’d like to see Lionel present the 89’ Auto Carrier in S Scale! Has this car ever been produced in S Scale?
Happy New Year,

Swafford,
I do not think so, but one of the more experienced veterans may know better. I've personally never seen one, nor have I seen one at any shows. I think these would look VERY NICE behind the new SD70ACE's.
Also, here is where I like to go to look for answers to this type of question. You may find it usefull in the future:
http://www.nasg.org/Products/index.htm
It is not exhaustive, but I find it very informative and a good place to start.

Unfortunately, this list appears to be scale only. For example under the 2-8-2 the Lionel Mikado is not mentioned. Neither is the American Models 4-6-2, 4-6-4 or 4-8-4 mentioned.
I only looked at locomotives, but I thought the NASG was supposed to represent all of S gauge... Did I miss something?

A quote from the page in question, bold type is mine:
"This page highlights some of the S-scale products that have been released over the years."
I'm taking that to mean scale wheel stuff, which would exclude the contemporary Flyer Mikado's and Pacific's. There is a listing for American Flyer, but they are scale conversions.
There's also this little tidbit:
"If you have updated information or a better photo, feel free to forward that to the webmaster."
The product page can also select by manufacturer, there ARE some listings under American Models:
http://www.nasg.org/Products/M..._American_Models.htm
But, it's pretty sparse. It looks like the webmaster is relying on contributions.
So, I've contacted him. I can scrape together some AM pictures and help flesh out the AM content. I expect with the holidays it might take some time to get them put up.
In defense of the NASG webmaster, Peter Vanvliet. He took on the Herculean task of revamping the NASG website about two years ago, the original one was pretty clumsy and not very user friendly. The current site is much more comprehensive than the old one ever was. I've found Peter to be eager and responsive to updates and contributions.
UPDATE 12:53p.m.
I just sent a bunch of AM locomotive photo's to the NASG webmaster. I don't know when he'll get around to updating things, but I'm confident he will. Much of what he has was inherited from the old website, plus there was a priority to get the SHS stuff up before their website was taken down.

Ask for an 86' Auto Parts Boxcar from Lionel also.

Gents,
An 89' auto carrier would be great to see in S. A friend of mine modified a Lionel auto carrier to S a while ago, and it looked fine. I can't recall if it was "full length" or not. But I think that a full length car wouldn't be too practical on many home layouts due to its length. The American Models 80' Pullman cars, for example, will not clear the old Flyer switches, and their overhang on tight curves also may present a problem. So perhaps the market wouldn't be all that large for such an item. That being said, I'd still probably obtain a few, because they'd look great behind a modern diesel like the SD70ACe.

There is an O-27 Auto Rack that can be converted into an S scale model. I have one of the tri level open cars that I have planned to convert but have not yet. There was also a closed car. I think I saw photos some place on the internet recently of one of the closed Lionel cars that was converted to S.
I have done the conversion of the of the Lionel auto rack, it was quite simple. I used Gilbert trucks and made a plate which I fastened to the trucks with a hole drilled in it to match the spacing on the Lionel O truck. These look like they were made for S. I do not know if the 89' carrier is of the same dimensions as the rack car but if so it would be an easy conversion.
