The 5-car "Texas Zephyr" set was produced in 1980 and has all the standard features of the Lionel aluminum streamlined-type passenger cars e.g. internal lighting, silhouettes and die-cast trucks. It was intended to be paired with the chrome 8054/8055 (AA) and 8062 (B) F3 ABA set. An uncatalogued sixth car, 9588 "Silver Dome" was also produced. All items were separate sale.
This old FS post and this one demonstrate.

Why two dome cars – the Vista Dome 6-9579 and the Silver Dome 6-9588 – Is there a difference?

Thank you – Enon49

The road number is different between the two.

In the real world there were a number of top-level passenger trains back in the day that featured more than one dome car in their consists.  The extra dome allows you to run a more real train.
