I watched a video here the other day of a members layout that had some great quillable steam whistles operating but, alas, I can't find it now to see which of the smaller steamers have the "best" quillable whistle.

I have only DCS revision L so I'm not completely sure I could maximize the Lionel quillable steam whistles' capabilities.

I'm hopeful forum members can help by giving their opinions and maybe posting some videos of their favorite steamers that can run 048-060 curves easily and, if anyone is looking to thin their steam engines,  I am definitely in the market for just one (for now).

This is not my video, but I do own one. Lionels Legacy k4 is my hands down favorite small steamer and definately one of my overall favorites as well.IMO some of Lionels quillable whistles are "done" better than others, I think this one is one of the better ones. Its one of my smoothest runners as well.

You will have to add the legacy system to get the quillable whistle function.

Credit to "engineer George"( not sure if hes a forum member) for this video.

I'm sorry, but if I could have only one steam loco and it had to be a small one I would pick an Legacy ATSF Northern (well .. .it's small compared to a Big Boy!).

Among medium small locos in the K4 range, I love my Legacy Southern Crescent (a lot smaller than the Blue Comet by the way: different casting even though both are on the same catalog page) and it would be my favorite "small loco."

I would never get rid of my PM 1225 Berkshire.  That looks great on my O-60 and O-72 curves.  If I wanted to keep one that could handle smaller curves, I would have to say my Lionel LionMaster T1.  Legacy equipped and has whistle steam effect.  This has been and I think always will be one of my favorite engines.  Lionel did everything right with it.

Here is a video of my T1.  I am running conventional, but the whistle still sounds awesome...
