I'm asking for help once again on this locomotive.  I have the MTH/Rail King, Imperial 3/4 Scale 30-1650-1-E, SP Cab Forward AC-12 Rd #4193.  It was part of a train set and has been in the box for a number of years now.  I took it to the club to run (this is the 2nd time now) and did exactly as everyone suggested the last time I asked about this problem.  I was told to make sure that the drawbar pins were seated properly in the receptacle on the tender, which I did.  I made a foam cradle to hold the engine and tender and I laid them upside down and connected the drawbar and pushed the pins into position and then squeezed them into place making sure that everything seated like it should have.  I carefully picked both pieces up at the same time and then set it on the track, I made sure all wheels were on the track and then turned on the power.  With the DCS controller, I went into Startup mode and the tender came to life, I could ring the bell, blow the whistle, the tender markers lit up and the tender back up light was on so I knew it was in reverse direction.  It started talking and all that good stuff, next I hit the direction button on the controller, tender light went off and NOTHING on the locomotive. I think the devil has taken over the locomotive.  No cab lights, no marker lights, NO GO either.  This is extremely frustrating to say the least.  It is quickly changing my perception and opinion of MTH locomotives, especially the steam locomotives.  I went thru this process 3 times before I finally called it all kinds of names and then put it back in the box.

Is there a switch somewhere on the locomotive that might be keeping it from running that I haven't seen or don't know about.  I have the smoke unit turned off and the volume is set to about 60%.  Does anyone have any further suggestions on what the problem might be.  The locomotive has PS-3 but that doesn't seem to be helping much.  I'm at a total loss as to what the problem is and how to get it to run.  Worst part is, I don't even know where to begin or how to trouble shoot it.  Is this common with MTH Steam Locomotives?

Your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated, if I can't get it solved, I guess it will become the ultimate shelf queen.  Thanks and I'm eagerly awaiting your answers.

Cheers

yes there is a switch on the bottom of the locomotive and it must be in the DCS position otherwise strange things can happen like starting up in conventional! I would  repair it for you and make it work correctly, sounds like it needs a little Tender loving care and then will run Great. I'm in new jersey if you would like me to fix it for you !

Alan, thanks for the offer, however, GRJ and Marcus are correct, the engine does not have a DCC/DCS switch on it.  The hole is there but no switch.  Lou1985, thanks for your answer, yes I did check the drawbar, I placed the engine and tender in the cradle and connected the two together and I made sure the drawbar was correctly installed and flipped them both over at the same time and put them on the track but still I get the same issues, no lights no action, the engine is just DEAD and now I can't go back to MTH and get their help as they have basically closed up.

Thanks guys for your help, I really appreciate it.

Can be bad drawbar or connector crimp as mentioned.  Since tender works AC is coming over.  But one or more of the other needed signals to the engine are not.  The problem is sometime you can get good continuity with a meter but not when carrying a load depending on fault.  A tech can swap harness and drawbar to figure it out.  G
