I opened up my RK Commodore Vanderbilt with TAS EOB to install a volume pot.  Tested pot and volume level and all was well.

Positioned the pot and closed up tender. Now every Whistle, Bell, Numeric button press on the Cab 1 sounds the whistle.  The direction button doesn't do anything.

In conventional mode it works as it should.

Any ideas what I did wrong or what went bad?

Your antenna is grounding out to a metal piece or the actual engine shell. The antenna must be isolated on its own.

Take a meter to see if there is any continuity between the antenna wire and the engine shell or something else.

I would say that (radio reception or antenna problem) is incorrect and might cause them to troubleshoot or focus  on the wrong thing.

It is responding to TMCC commands- just the wrong response and that wrong response correlates to the R2LC TMCC radio receiver being used on the TAS board being in Program mode VS Run mode.

Again clearly the engine is getting a TMCC signal and responding- however, that response correlates to the actions that happens when in program mode VS run more for most TMCC and Railsounds equipped engines.

I realize my message could be taken the wrong way. All I was trying to do was propose an order of what is more likely VS less likely.

Again, the symptoms say it's getting a TMCC signal and responding to specific inputs- just each response results in horn, and while abnormal for run mode- perfectly expected and normal in program mode.

As such, since board modifications and soldering had to happen to install the volume pot on the TAS board, it's possible something went wrong there if this is not just the switch being in the wrong position.

You could check the R2lC socket on the TAS board and ensure that pin 22 for the Program/Run switch is not shorted to 3,4 AC Return AKA frame ground. Again, run operation mode is open circuit on pin22. I've attached both diagrams one of the backside since that is what you would easily be able to test for continuity using a meter with the R2LC plugged into the TAS board.

Hoping it's just the switch, but providing the extra detail in case you have to go down into further troubleshooting.
