Has anyone taken apart a PE LionChief Berk? Or any other LC or LC+ engine? I'm curious as to the internals and setup...

Yes, I have. A search my find an old post on this.
The PE LC has the board placed at the rear of the engine instead of the center of the conventional version if I remember right.
It is a single integrated board. Only thing in the tender was the speaker.
Everything else, Smoke, Motor, etc.. was the same. G
I've taken apart two LC locos - a Hudson and a Pacific. Both were just like that.
They look empty inside. The mainboard is less than 2" x 3" with two very small daughter boards mounted on it. Sound and radio, I would presume. The most interesting part could be missed...an IR sensor to trigger the chuff.
Thanks guys, I love finding out how things work...

Don't forget the special pipe going from the smoke generator to the circuit boards. This special addition is fitted to PE locomotives only, and is designed to keep the magic smoke topped-up in case any of it escapes over the christmas period.
