I've got a Lionel NYC S-1 #100 that I'm thinking of installing a Henning's battery replacement in. Apparently Lionel only likes brand new 9V, otherwise this thing won't make any sound when switching directions or shutting down in conventional. They say the battery replacement unit is simple to install, but this one wire that needs to be spliced into track power is a bit concerning. Everything is packed in so tight into this thing, I'm not sure what wire to cut and splice, and I'm not sure Lionel gave enough wire to fiddle with this thing. Does anyone have an S-1 that can point out what I attach this battery replacement to.... before I dump $50 into the battery component and potentially wreck the engine?

@gunrunnerjohn designed and builds the YLB's. He would probably be the best guy to ask.
Or- try and trace a power wire from one of the pick up rollers and splice it into that.
You shouldn’t have to cut anything. Your tapping into the pickup rollers. They terminate along with a few others at a wire nut. Not familiar with this engine but usually the nut is pretty accessible.
I found the diagram on Lionel’s site. It show 2 grays and 3 red wires in it.

Not sure what I can add, I haven't tried to install it in that particular locomotive.
OK, thanks for the info everybody. It's more to work with than I had before.
