It should be fairly straightforward. The electronics fit in the tender and you can make the antenna from some wire glued to the inside of the tender shell, or some foil for making stained glass.

I do not know if this loco has a tether, but one will be required.

You will like the way it runs with cruise control.

Very good, thank you for the concise reply. Two more questions-

1. Cruise Commander et al discuss needing the R2LC receiver; I have purchased them in the past from Lionel Parts. But the ERR website lists only a R4LC, rev C08. Do I need to purchase the R2LC directly from Lionel, or is the R4LC the thing to get?

2. In 10 words or less, what is the difference between Railsounds and Signalsounds?, some of the ERR pages mention them in the same breath.

Thanks again for your tireless support!

The Cruise Commander package has the proper receiver, the R4LC supplied is functionally exactly the same as the R2LC of yesteryear, they both run the C08 firmware.  I believe the reason there is an R4LC is a processor upgrade so they'd have more memory for the Legacy functions when it's used in the early Legacy locomotives.  However, the R4LC is the replacement you'll get if you order an R2LC for an older locomotive nowadays.

Signal Sounds is just horn/whistle & bell, no other sounds.  RailSounds is the full sound package.  AFAIK, ERR doesn't sell anything that does just RailSounds, they do have a switch you can install to limit the sounds from the RailSounds Commander to whistle & bell only.

NOW I understand. Until you look at the ordering info page, it doesn't tell you that the receiver is included in the kit, but on the ordering page it does mention the R4LC, even thought the main product page talks about the R2LC. The RailSounds Commander page, on the other hand, puts all the kit content info on the main product page.

Life is hell for people who actually read the fine print.

Well, we will order some stuff today. Thanks again.

If you order the Cruise Commander and RailSounds Commander, the only other significant piece you'll need is the tether between the two pieces.  I use MTH tethers myself as a rule.

The ERR stuff doesn't come with stuff like light bulbs and electrocouplers, so if you want those capabilities, you'll need to obtain those as well.  I typically use LED's when doing ERR upgrades.
