Installing TMCC or ERR in a MPC era EP-5

The easiest way is to put an AC Commander in, very simple install. Go to ERR by 3rd Rail and check out the manual for the AC Commander to see just how simple it is.

Would I be able to run the engine with the MTH DCS system via TMCC control? I do not own the actual TMCC system and am not considering purchasing one.

You would need the TMCC base at least to run it via DCS. They usually run $30 to $100 used, swapmeets are good places to find a good deal.

I only run DCS through my iPhone and into an MTH Explorer-do I really need this “TMCC base” for that? I didn’t think I did!

DCS is nothing but the remote, without a base there would be no TMCC signal to the track or engine,

To run TMCC in command mode you do indeed need at a minimum the TMCC Command Base connected to your TIU.
