Psalm 121

I think I met Marty once or twice at York dcs meetings.  He was very kind and light hearted in his interactions, including with me as apparently I was a bit late to have a dcs update performed.  Through all the interactions on the forum he is a very kind and knowledgeable man.  I am sorry to hear this news and will send some extra prayers up tonight for Marty.  God Bless you both.

DOTTY and MARTY, prayer train is running for both of you.  You are both in my thoughts.

Myself being from the Boston area Marty & Dotty have always taken the time to attend and say hello at every local train event. That goes double helping others out in the hobby.

A true friend to all of us in this hobby.

My heart and prayers go out to both of you during this difficult time.

Words escape me, wish there was some miracle out there that could happen.

Continued prayers for Marty and Dottie. My best memory was when Alex presented Marty with a model of his home at Alex and Dina's summer get together. Marty was absolutely overwhelmed and so appreciative. Great guy, and I am prayerful that he will pull through.

I loved that model house, what a great gift!  Lots of good memories, and I hope we have the opportunity to have lots more.

Marty and Dotty,  we have never met in person, but only through the Forum. You have been in everyone's thoughts and I pray God keeps watch over you gives you comfort and peace.

I have never met either of you but marty helped me once with a train issue I will never forget his kindness helping me. I hope that you both find strength in each other in the coming days ahead and know you both are in my thoughts and prayers.

Grace and peace to you.

You've made the best decisions possible under these terrible circumstances.  No one could have been more caring or a better health care advocate.  We all thank God for your Marty, he has been blessed in so many ways and has blessed us, too.

Prayers ascend for comfort.  The Great Physician will cure all ills and wipe away all tears.

I count myself very lucky that I met Marty once (at York a few years back), did some business with him and benefitted from his advice posted here over several years. God bless and keep him and his family.

Hello Marty & Dottie....as "Laz1957 so astutely put it....there is a L O N G prayer train with all of us Forumites on it trying to help.  I am pretty much at a loss for words....but your legacy among us Forumites speaks volumes.....BLESS BOTH OF YOU!

Oh Dottie - my heart aches for you and my head prays for God to keep Marty in comfort and his warm embrace. Our three rail family is saddened beyond words, please Dottie don't forget to take care of yourself.

An amputation would also not heal and would likely be reinfected. Chemo can’t be given for a while before and after surgery, which allows the cancer in other parts of the body to regrow. Dotty and Marty there's nothing I can say that hasn't been said.  You've both reached the heartsof so many folks.  My hope is that you can take some comfort in knowing that you are loved by so many.  Both of you are in my heart and prayers every single day.  May God bless and comfort both of you.

I didn't know Marty as well as many of you did, but I did get to chat with him and Dotty briefly in the restaurant on the fairgrounds at the York meet two or three meets ago.  His hospitality, warmth and helpfulness came through even in such a short meeting - showing that what has been written about him is, if anything, an understatement.  I have no idea whether Marty knew the quotation from Henri-Frédéric Amiel (sometimes used as a benediction at the end of church services) but he certainly lived his life as if he did: 

“Life is short. We don't have much time to gladden the hearts of those who walk this way with us. So, be swift to love and make haste to be kind.”

It seems to me that Marty exemplified that spirit in his wide-open hospitality and generous giving of himself, his knowledge, and his time to all he came in contact with.  I know I felt that wonderful warmth of spirit from him and Dotty at York.  He will leave this world and especially this hobby much better for his being here.  May he find peace and comfort and relief from his pain and may Dotty continue to find the strength to support and care for him.

You both seem such a wonderful team. Dotty, prayers continue for strength. I think it beautiful that you are seeing to it that Marty is able to confront this on his terms. Marty, I commend you for having the courage to have fought, and the peace in your heart to know when quality outweighs longevity. May God bless you both. Having never known either of you, praying for you and checking the updates has still made me feel like I have been privy to a most beautiful love story, laden with kindness and gratitude by all who've been so honored that you've shared it with us.

I firmly believe in the power of prayer, and with all the prayers Marty and Dotty are receiving that God will bring healing. Both Marty and Dotty are wonderful people and amazing friends and have done so much for so many that God is hearing our pleas and will provide the healing to bring him back to health. 

Just want to add thoughts and prayers for Dotty and Marty. The many friends you have here on this forum who know you well or who interact with you virtually are a great testament to you both! I hope hospice brings you both the peace you deserve.

Rich, I shot the video on my cell phone. Alex planned the project in the spring. I took pictures of the outside of the house and train room and measurements of the outside of the house then sent him the information, so by Alex's open house in August it was finished. As usual, Alex did a GREAT job!  Marty's most prized possession.

So much so well stated about such a wonderful person that it is difficult to add anything. I was privileged to be a friend of Marty. He and Dotty stayed at our house a number of times and he assisted me in the layout I built in my prior house. One result was the FITZHENRY IRONWORKS twin bridges. One is pictured with my "Trooper" train passing over it. The Trooper train is an unshrouded MTH "J", painted and with LEDs from JDS trains. The picture is from 2013.
