Does anyone have experience with Island model works kits? I am interested in the P72 kit but I don't know how well it will work in O scale. My experience with kits is minimal is this something I will struggle with or is it straight forward?

Thanks in advance!

I believe they are 2R only.

Items are OK, not OEM quality. The photos I received indicated that they were a little rough.

My friend had a sample of the HO SIRT car and it lacked details plus it was warped.

They are the only cars available closest to what the LIRR ran back in the day.

No one else wants to invest in tooling especially these days.

They can be quite costly per car with cleaning up flashing, painting, decaling, adding trucks and couplers. Then you need a motor car to pull the trailer cars.

So, I’m going with the new / next MTH LIRR MU electrics.

If IMW cars were 3R, I would order some pings to run with the MU’s.

Unless something has changed, that’s the story as of now.

I think they're supposed to be moving toward 3D printing from resin casting. They already have some models on the Shapeways website.

I asked about getting O scale versions of the NJT multilvels. They could do it, but the minimum quantities hit a snag when it was discovered that the cab-control cars were too different from the straight coaches to make them via modular tooling (I'll assume this meant resin-cast). So you'd need a minimum order of 20 cab cars and whatever quantity of coaches to go with them to make it a reality. Aside from that, you'd need to paint, decal and add couplers. NWSL makes 3-rail compatible wheelsets, so that part is taken care of.

But definitely not a shake-the-box kit.
