I was downstairs staging the layout for visitors this weekend. I usually stage 6 different trains to provide variety on the Mains and passing sidings. It started out a relaxing afternoon…….until the F40’s broke loose from the Superliners and crashed into the rear of my Stack Train which happened to be on the same track, not the siding. They actually seemed to pick up speed before impact.

Pushing the red button on my CABII did nothing.

Broke the rear EOT device on the Lionel Husky Stack. Ouch. I do not know what else is busted. I took some pictures as a reminder, turned off the power and lights and came upstairs.

Poured myself 3 fingers of JD. Decided to post this as writing calms me down.

So sorry to learn of this terrible rail disaster, Donald. Whatever news agency arrived on scene with its helicopter got some great photos. Thankfully, no one was injured including you, right? )

I imagine the railroad will have its big crane there shortly to right all the cars and the crews will be able to repair any track damage. Thank you for sharing this unfortunate accident.

I feel your pain, Donald!

During the development phase of my Marx "Twin Train" emulation project, I found a number of creative ways that the two consists would try to occupy the same section of the figure-8 track at the same time, both at the crossing and, as in your situation, from behind! No serious damage done in any of these events, and in any event I had anticipated the hazard and had deliberately chosen some of my most beat-up rolling stock for my experimentation, unlike your beautifully detailed container transports.

Thanks for the comments guys. I enjoyed the humor. I needed that. I had my wife help me after dinner to “upright” the cars since they were all coupled together. The EOT device broke off the back and I had 2 busted couplers. No detail parts broke off those ultra delicate Lionel and MTH well cars. Surprising, all the containers stayed together. I did wipe out a telephone pole at the logging camp that needs replacement.

As a side note, I do like the pics that show the underbody detail on the MTH cars. Too bad it took a major derailment to display it.

No one was injured except my pride. It was my fault. I have that loop running off my ZW-L. I was under the layout tracking down a pesky feeder wire. I either forgot to throw a switch or turn off track power to the passing siding. I heard the F40’s bust loose, I pressed the emergency red button but maybe it was too late for the system to respond.

My kill switch was 12 feet away and my old legs do not move that fast.

Lesson learned. Thanks for the positive and humorous comments. Much appreciated.

Seriously tho- glad nothing wound up on the floor.

My go to is Johnny Black but JD is a close second.

Hey Bob..I did witness 324 impact the rear of the train. There were some sparks but no fire. The Husky Stack with the EOT has a pickup roller that shorted across the rails to blow the breaker.

Donald, I thought for sure you were posting a new video for the week!

I'm with you on the JD

Hey Jason. I do have a new video to post today but it is something a little different. Just a “short story”. I was away for 2 weeks and just got home. I put together some pictures and a short video of that stack train. A full length video will follow next week.

👍 for JD.

Don

In my experiences, trains behave like children. You can run them all day and they stay on the tracks and operate fine. When you have people in to see them operate, they usually become cantankerous just like kids. It was even more so when I had guests in and was running two I-5's with passenger consists and demonstrating how to make a video at the same time. Ohhh boy!!!!!    You can see the result.  Evidently the outer rails have super elevated a little more and made the wider passenger cars hit together. If you pay attention at the very end, you can hear me utter UHT OOO!
