It is almost August: You know what that means!

Don't rush this too much, chipset. Where you live, you probably have experienced a good deal of summer so far, but for us in Northern New England, it has been a rather crummy summer. Because of this, the last thing I want to think about now is building a new Christmas layout. However, the time will soon come when this subject will be a priority.

You will have to let us know what your Christmas layout plans are. 

GEEEZE, this reminds me of Kmart, where they have already taken down their summer stuff to make way for the Christmas stuff.  Next, it'll be Valentine's day.

Wow! Almost Autumn! That will be great! I won't sweat as much mowing the yard during the fall/winter mowing season!

As for trains, they are up and running year round. I would like to put together a special Christmas train though. Been wanting to do that for several years now though!  LOL

It means I can start ignoring things needing to be done inside the house instead of ignoring the things needed to be done outside.

I really like this response!  The wife, however, has a different opinion.  

It means two months before Tom retires. I'll still be writing, but he most likely won't be getting up at five-thirty in the morning any more and there won't be any reason for us to have to miss stuff we want to see because he can't take a day off.

Really? July = Christmas preparation? September = cooler? (That's October, here.)

Heck, no. It makes as much sense to say July = back to work after New Year's Day

(if I still worked...).

Where I live (Mobile), the Mardi Gras parades typically start in February, so I had better get downtown to find a good spot on the parade route - after all, it's already July! 

Can't wait for fall, hate the summer. Also can't wait for the first snow fall. I'm ready!

a balmy 103 degrees.  I will admit I get into the season of

Christmas and my Christmas layout when I have my first Ralphie 

sighting on the tube.

I was born in NY and after 8 blissful winters of snow, which I LOVE...we moved to Florida....

After, 18 years sweating, but having fun in Fort Lauderdale, I tired of surfing, and swimming, and joined the military hoping for a cold weather assignment...

I got warm southern Georgia 11 miles north of the Florida border, and except for 1 freak snowstorm, I had to move to SD to get a 3 year snow fix, followed by 12 years of no snow in warm SE Texas.

So now, in the wonderful climate of Virginia, I get all 4 full seasons and my favorite is still Winter in all its snow glory!

I love walking in it, driving in it, even shoveling it!

All I can say is that I'm hard at work on our December/Christmas issue now.  Lots of good stuff lined-up for our readers!  

I thought this was going to be another countdown to York thread.

I do like the fall better than the hot and humid weather. I can take the cold better but the snow is getting old. I'm considered essential personnel which means my butt has to be at work no mater what!  "lucky me" 

Where I live, it's mild summertime weather almost all year round, even at X- mas time. 

100 plus the last few days. Hard to get into that mindset.

Gotta work on the Halloween layout before thinking about Christmas.

It's been hitting 114 at the Anza-Borrego desert and El Centro.  Low 100's in those places the natives start to shiver. 

1.  Cooler?  In Houston? 

2.  Has Daffy Duck officially proclaimed it!

3.  The "Holiday Season" has been pushed up so long that by the time the official dates come people are SICK of them!

5.  But I am thinking of a Fall Season trains on the layout with my NH EF4 and SP DAYLIGHT painted cars.....

No offense, really, but this post is absurd. We're still TWO full months away from fall. And I LOVE the Christmas season.

Actually, I think it's more fun than absurd.

I don't know. Thinking about Christmas one month into the summer might be a tiny, small, little bit absurd. Can we at least get through Labor Day first?

We've had a great summer so far. Beautiful weather, don't rush it bye. Summer in Maine is way too short.

See? If the December/Christmas OGR issue is being worked on by Allan, it's Editor, then you know it is 'officially' very close to our favorite time of year approaching!

FWIW, The major seasonal advertisements you see on television and in print are almost always filmed/prepped several months in advance of when they're meant to be aired/published.  Nothing new about that.  It's just that the seasonal advertising "creep" has steadily been moving up earlier & earlier which frankly I find to be rather overbearing.  I hear enough holiday hype during the holidays; I don't find it enthusiastic to get exposed to it starting the tail-end of summer kind of makes me weary by the time the holidays actually get here.

And if "Black Friday" is the day a lot of businesses first go into the "black" side of the leger, then, "Houston, we have a problem!"  Except, maybe, for toy and hobby shops, this is NOT a very good business mode.  That is, l to be dependent for, say, 5 weeks out of the year!

Yup it's only 154 days till Christmas. Now I can wait, it will be here before you know it. But for me it means time is running out. I still have so much to do. I want one absolutely magnificant Christmas layout and display. And now it's closer to next Christmas than it was from last Christmas. But all that said. I don't want to push the Holiday season on anyone sooner than it should start. A few years ago they started playing Christmas Music, only, on Thanksgiving. I would like that, if it wasn't for the fact is has nothing to do with the holidays, but rather getting us into the spending money season.

Well, to me, August means football season starts soon.  The trains, they are a 12-month a year thing.  

I started thinking about this years Christmas display back in December when I completed last years display. I'm finalizing the track plan this weekend so I can order the additional track before Mario's track sale ends next week. I'll start working on the actual display in mid August so I can take advantage of the temporary space available in a vacant condo at that time.

Our summer adventure has been delayed this year and will now be an abbreviated Autumn adventure. So I'll use the time now to take care of what would normally wait until October. 

It will be cooler in Rockwall TX (Dallas) more time for play in the garage AND Alabama Football -ROLL TIDE
