Jumpy Thumbwheel Speed

It might benefit from a shot of contact cleaner, but they do go bad.  The thumbwheel is certainly the weak spot of the DCS Remote.  Well, that and the battery compartment.

Inside the thumb wheel to clean and lube hard to get at with out disassembly..best to replace. I serviced this one 3 years ago..still works and smoother than my new one(still new in the bag).

Be sure to use a cleaner that does not affect plastic.  CRC makes one; I don't have the name at hand.

This is what i use..cleans sensitive electronics and leaves a lubricating and protective film for conductivity. CRC , Deoxit and MG chemicals have various products as well.

Truthfully guys, most commercial contact cleaners shouldn't affect plastics, or they wouldn't last long on the market!

I used CRC Brakeleen on a northeastern track cleaning car, and it dissolved a plastic truck.

That's kind of a different animal...it's not intended to be a contact cleaner. It has acetone in it as well as other plastic dissolving chemicals. The contact cleaners and preservers by Caig Laboratories such as Deoxit are probably the best.

Brake cleaner is NOT contact cleaner!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Bottom line is that if I want to use some Deoxit I have to open up the remote -- ugh. Now that you mention it though I do have a remote with a dead display that's already open. I can take a look at that to see where the contacts are if I want to try to clean them. Totally agree with you John on the thumbwheel. Not a good design.

I have squirted the stuff around the knob.

GRJ:  true, but it's left me wary of any of this bug juice that doesn't say it's safe for plastics.
