I don't know if its popular to do this, but I came across this picture on rrpictures and wanted to recreate it on my layout with some scale intermodal I already had.

Very nice. I have done little with intermodal because I put myself in situation of too many low trestles and bridges.Your pictures look excellent. Great idea.
Thanks Jim. Would you happen to know the height of the container when it is on the car? I hate to buy one just to check the clearance. I know they list dimensions on product info but somehow it never seems to translate correct in use. Thanks. Jeff
I would like to know where you got that articulated maxi stack set. IS that a Jeff Sohn Creation or scratchbuilt?
The 1:1 pic is a cut down 48' well car. Did you do the same with yours?
Yes, my model is a 1:48 replica of the one in the picture. I did cut it down from a 48' MTH husky stack, along with increasing the sidesill height by one scale foot, plus other modifications.
If, I have a replica 1:48 scale model of the 'Real-Deal,' I also like to duplicate the scene.
Makes one feel good to have a recreation of an actual occurrence.

Great topic! Thank you for starting this thread.
I think what attracts many of us to scale model railroading is recreating what we see, used to see or wish we could have seen in person. We have several manufacturers who have made it practical to do that in 3 rail O scale. I live within ear shot of the Great Northern's Stevens Pass line. I can see Dash-9s going to the grocery store and I can buy models of them. But I can only see FTs, R-2s and electrics on a model railroad.
Here is an example of a freight car brought to us thanks to a manufacturer and a dealer. Atlas makes a fine model of 50 ton chlorine tank car and Petersen Supply had offered custom runs of the car decorated for Hooker Chemical's Niagara Falls and Tacoma Plants. I had two of the cars and suggested to Andy Petersen that next time he did a run he should consider using the road number HOKX 711 for the Tacoma car after I found this picture at the Tacoma Public Library from the 1950 Hooker board or directors meeting.
When the 8214/9214-6 Hooker tank cars arrived I was very happy to see it was the HOKX 711.
Hooker manufactured chlorine, caustic soda, anhydrous ammonia and hydrochloric acid at Tacoma. Lionel has made an 8,000 gallon caustic soda tank car lettered for Niagara Falls. MTH has made rail king and premier tank cars lettered for Tacoma and the latest Hooker tank car is labeled for hydrochloric acid. Atlas has made a variety of Hooker cars for chlorine and ammonia. I sure hope they make some 8,000 gallon tank cars for caustic soda service.....
I'd like to day a big thank you to Andy Petersen for all the Hooker Tank cars he has had produced, especially the HOKX 711.
I can't wait to see the Olympia Beer Reefers.
