Yes the K Line Allegheny should be able to handle 031 curves, so 036 curves should not be a problem.

It sounds like you are considering one, and haven't seen or run one yet, the K Line Allegheny and Big Boys were very nicely detailed, BUT they were also VERY UNDER SCALE size wise, they are even considerably smaller than the Lionmaster line.

To give you an idea of the relative sizes, in the right column that is a :

Lionel Scale size (JLC) Big Boy

Lionel Lionmaster Big Boy

MTH Railking Big Boy

K Line Big Boy

Lionel Lionmaster Challenger

Lionel Scale size AC-9

As you can see, the K Line Big Boy is SMALLER than the Lionmaster Challenger, which is already "Semi-Scale"

The K Line Allegheny and Big boys are very nice models, I just Hope to avoid someone buying one not knowing about the size and being disappointed in their purchase. Also be aware that K Line did some with full Sound and TMCC, and some that were just Whistle only, I believe.

SJC,

Please be more specific than "total POS", what was wrong with your K Line Allegheny, my Big Boy was a nice locomotive, just too small for my taste.

The only issue I had with my K Line BB, was that if I ran it at a much higher than scale speed, the chuff sounds would start to flutter. I don't recall if I had to just slow it down, or actually stop, but then the sounds were fine again until it was run at warp speeds again. Running at scale appropriate speeds it was fine, and gave me no other issues.

The Big Boy had scale level detail and was a Great looking and running locomotive, the size was the only thing I couldn't live with and eventually sold it. The MTH RK Big Boy (30-1129) was semi-scale size as well, but in MY OPINION MTH just got all the proportions wrong, it was compressed too much lengthwise compared to Height and width, ESPECIALLY in the tender. Overall in the semi-scale market, in MY OPINION, Lionel's Lionmaster line was/is the hands down WINNER.

"they were also VERY UNDER SCALE"

Well, no. And yes.

They were built to 1:58 scale (I do believe it actually says so on the box), so they are indeed scale models, and not compressed, but they were not built to 1:48 or O-scale, so they are smaller, but not "very", to me. I have one. Nice loco within its limitations; I have TMCC/cruise; runs well. Has, so far, kept me from buying a 1:48 version.  So far.

It's not a "small" loco (it is slim, due to being and actual scale model - at 1:58); the loco and tender pretty well equal the length (if not girth) of the Lionel 1:48 USRA 2-6-6-2 Mallet and tender.

K-line also offered an O-gauge UP Big Boy - built to, for Pete's sake, 1:64 - S scale. Now that was "very undersized". The Allegheny is 1:58, not 1:64.

I have both the K-Line Allegheny and Big Boy.  I think they go well together size wise.  They do look rather small when placed near the MTH RK Cab Forward and Lionel LM Class-A.  Both will take O27 curves.  I love running them.  They pull a ton.  My Allegheny is currently in a million pieces as I plan to upgrade to all LED lighting, add ERR cruise and all of John's TMCC add-ins.

I Guess that I should have been very specific, about them being Very Under Scale, FOR O SCALE (1:48), seeing that this is an O Gauge forum, I thought that went without saying, even in semi-scale the Big Boy IS SMALL, my picture in the previous post shows that, the K Line Big Boy is even SMALLER than a Lionmaster CHALLENGER.

I HAD a K Line Big Boy, and they are Nicely detailed, well running models, but in MY OPINION, are scaled TOO SMALL, for the O GAUGE market, YMMV.

According to Rusty, he has seen the K Line BB, alongside the "S" scale Lionel/Flyer BB, and in his opinion they are NOT the same, the K Line is larger than the "S" Scale Big Boys. I have not seen the K Line Allegheny, but from what I have heard, they were scaled approximately the same as the Big Boy.

Again the Big Boy IS a Nice Model, and if someone is Happy with the actual size of it, that is GREAT, the purpose of my post and picture was to help someone else avoid buying one UNAWARE of the diminutive size of the K Line models, like I was. I bought mine off ebay, and was not aware of just how small they were, had I seen it in person, I wouldn't have bought it. The seller did not misrepresent it, I was just not familiar with the model before I bought it.

Oh I forgot to add this to my post above.  The K-Line Big Boy was the 1st "big" steamer I got.  Up to that point I had the MTH RK Dreyfuss Hudson.  I thought it was huge!  But then I got the RK Cab Forward and a couple scale GP38-2s and realized just how small it was.  It got even smaller once I got a scale Big Boy.  I have photos of them side by side on these forums somewhere.  In a vacuum they look big and go well with none scale freight.  But as soon as you add scale and larger none scale locomotives and freight cars it gets small fast.  But I love the locomotives so I have no issue keeping and running them.

So, the short of it is yes, the K-Line Allegheny can run on O36 FasTrack just fine.  I run mine on it all the time.  Just be aware that it is on the small side and you will notice it as your locomotive collection grows.  As for overhang, I don't remember it being that bad at all.  The MTH RK Cab Forward has the worst overhang of all my O36 steamers.
