Any opinions on the K-Line 15 inch horizon cars.  I know atlas made great cars but my ruling curve radius makes them impossible to run.  I see the k line cars up for auction once in a while, seems like they were either plastic or aluminum or both.   I'm not looking for opinions on collectability, rather reliability.  If I find any at a reasonable price my plan is to repaint and decal as new jersey transit cars.

Lionel also made 15" passenger cars in metal. Baggage, combine, diner, sleeper, vista dome , coach and observation.

Should be reasonably easy to repaint/letter to your road name of choice.  They are usually available on Eby either single or in sets.

Thanks, I am specifically looking for horizon cars as that is what NJT runs.

I don't have these cars as I have lots of Atlas 21" scale cars, but I have seen many for sale and own lots of K-Line passenger cars.  Generally, K-Line passenger cars are of high quality regardless of length.  They introduced the 15" Horizon cars in the yellow and black box era, and those have always been superior in terms of quality and operations for their time.   Some K-Line equipment suffers from zinc rot, but I have not heard anything that suggests these cars do.

The biggest difference between Horizon cars and Comet cars is Horizon cars run on GSC trucks that have outside bearing frames, while Comet cars run on inside bearing trucks similar to Amfleet cars.

While not K-Line, my Atlas cars in service.

The Atlas cars look great but I can't meet the minimum curve requirement.   The kline cars would but at best a representation but one takes what one can get.  Thanks for the reply.
