Hello Everyone.....AS mentioned in several publications, the K-Line Smoke Units were terrible.  Well, I had one replaced a few years ago and finally got to pull engine out of the box and run it.  You guessed it....smoke unit does not function.  I took apart.....the fan turns counterclockwise 1/4 turn when on and nothing gets hot to produce smoke.  The motor was removed and tested and it functions properly.  Instead of playing with the thing any further.....I decided to find out if anyone has an alternative smoke unit that would work in the K-Line Trainmaster wTMCC.  After I put the unit back together....the same result occurred so I gave up.

Please advise if anyone can assist.  Thank you in advance.

I have had no issues with K-Line Fan Driven smoke units.  They are basically the same as Lionels, usually with a 27ohm resistor, but some times a lower value.  Are you sure the R2lC is not bad?  Is the smoke switch in the on position?  Did you reset the R2lC with the proper code for Diesel with smoke (#8)?  The heating element is simple wired.  Does it measure a resistance of 20-27 ohms?  G

George....great to hear from you again.

When I took the unit apart and tested the motor....it operated fine.  When I re-installed the motor into the smoke unit and inserted the flywheel.....and tested it again.....the fan operated and the flywheel operated as welll.  When I connected the 2-pin wire and put everything back together.....it did the same thing.....the fan turned 1/4 turn counterclockwise and continued that way.....sort of stop and start the 1/4 turn each time.

I wonder if it coould be the little harness that comes from the motor to the female adapter for the 2 pin wire?  Will try and send a little video later today.  Thanks again George...Take care!!!    Larry
