The 54" diameter appears to be outside edge of tie to outside edge of tie (similar measurement to Lionel O-31 measuring.)
Here is what is currently available new from Ready Made trains that bought the tooling and left overs of the Supersnap line. They said they would be releasing all old designs of track so perhaps write to them and see if the switches you want will be out soon.
RMT will have production samples of 0-31 and 0-72 Remote non-derailing switches at Eastern TCA York next week along with other track items.
Thanks.

I tried to make a figure 8, but realized I need special size track coming off of the 90` crossover. Does anyone know what size I need to complete the figure 8?
It looks like the regular figure-8 with a 90deg crossing and O31 curves would need just a 10" straight coming off each of the legs of the 90deg crossover.quote:Does anyone know what size I need to complete the figure 8?
It might measure to 10.5" but with tubular, I think you'll be good.

Anybody have any comments about Super-Snap? Pros? Cons? Comparisons to other track?

For 90deg and O30 curves it looks like just a fraction longer than 10 inches.
for 90deg and O42 curves (12 per circle), you'll need 16.5 inches (which can be done with SuperSnap with (2) 3.5"; (1) 4"; and (1) 5.5").
I just looked in their catalog and found this for curves. 0-31 0-54 0-63 0-72 0-81 0-96 0-120 Straights will be: 5" 10" 20" 30" 40" So, I gues they will have O-54 after all. But I think it depends on how well they sell what hey have now. I plan to buy a bunch if they have another sale in September. |
I have some extra ) 63s if interested

I have and use this track on my Christmas layout. I love it it has held up good my only issue is that if you dont use Track pins in the Rails sometimes you loose power to the sections. The tabs on the ends on the old style of the track are fragile and will break. also loosing connectivity. With this said I have been using this track now for several years and I love the looks and the quality. That was the only downside i found to the Super SnaP Track.
The wiser decision would have been to reproduce the Super-K track.
not knowing squat about the new super snap wouldnt it be nice if O42 curves and O42 switches were available?
i guess its still possible that they might have O42 available in the near future.
thop........
To Thop - there a a few 0-42 K-Line NEW Switches on the E***. I just bought a circle of NEW 0-42 Super Snap track there.
I will be using this on my new layout I am in the process of building.
tnx 4 the info larry.
to Lionelzw - I have some of the 0-31 Older K line and Lionel K-line - 1 out of 5 has had problems - works for a while and the will on;y remotely turn one way ot the other. I've had 4 repaired by some one who can open them up and do resoldering on the fine wires in the switch motors.( I think that was what went). The 0-72 switches worked fine.
I used 6 of them for high speed movements as crossovers from one loop to another. Dont see very many on E***.
RMT has them coming out soon. I'm going to try a pair. Walter says they have improved them from the K-line design.

Hopefully one of the improvements is the use of ABS plastic.
I have a 10 by 12 with 4 concentric loops all with original K-line 031, 072 and 042 switches. About 30 switches on the layout. I have only had a problem with one and it was easily fixed. I like the track also, but I do add pins.
Lionel made all three switches and I have a few of the 072 versions. They did not work as well, and required a higher voltage. So hopefully RMT uses the original K-Line spec not the Lionel version. G
I use K-Line shadow rail and purchased the new Ross traditional tinplate tubular turnouts, they mate perfectly with O tubular. Expensive but worth it. They are a Forum sponsor, click on the logo. If using the snap track be sure to add track pins, much better continuity that way..

dale...i sure didnt know ross made tubular style switches that you just mentioned.
will have to have a look see.
terry.........
I purchased some of the new Ross Tinplate switches to use with my K line Snap Track and Super Track. I bought the # 4's to use as high speed crossovers from one main line to another.

I am building a new layout now.I installed the track but have not ran the trains yet. They look well made though.

I am using them for a hands off automated passing siding where 4 trains run, 2 in each direction.
My layout is display, conventional mode, mostly automated and normally I would avoid turnouts because of lack of reliability,so
It is important that they switch reliably and no derailments. Electrically speaking automating passing sidings is fairly easy to do with a few relays, the worry is derailments. I purchased these at York and Steve assured me of their quality ("our switches dont derail"). When I get the thing running I will post a review of the switches.
For those interested ,here is wiring for a passing siding with 2 trains.

As for the K-Line super snap track, www.Justtrains.com has some leftover stock in large diameters and RMT is having it remade. Best tubular track ever IMO.
