Erik,

The "trailing truck" is not powered. Since the model is a 4-6-6-4 wheel arrangement, with two "engines" it has a motor for the front "engine" and a separate motor for the rear "engine". Thus, just like the real locomotive, both engines are individually and separately powered.

What strikes me as unusual is just how high the two electric drive motors are mounted.

Unusual mounting of motors, both on rear engine.  Weight will have to be added to the front engine to balance the locomotive.  Since I am a scratch builder, it looks to me like the superstructure will not fit over the motors.  Looking at the distance from the cylinder saddles to the possible height of the boiler doesn't appear like the boiler could be that tall. What do I know.  Maybe just a prototype?

I saw that just recently.  Seems to use a low alxe gear ratio with a custom gear motor.  What I thought was more amazing was the women who where assembling them.  They make my work with a Gilmaur kit look absolutely caveman.  Modelers/artists whichever but definately skilled working on such precision demanding tasks.

i suspect they intentionally raised the motors to get a better look at the running gear.  two motors and dual sound systems should make this a superb model, though for the price tag, i can think of better things to do with those funds.

Ahhh I'll bet your right....good point.  But yes for the $$$....I'll spend it on other things.
